Gentle Pain Release Center Therapist Biographies
Flossie Amoia, P.T.
B.S., Physical Therapy
Daemen College, Amherst, NY, 1989
Flossie is originally from Upstate New York. She moved south in 1991 in search of warmer temperatures and a friendly atmosphere. She has worked in traditional settings, including nursing homes and outpatient clinics, and has also served as the Manager of Physical and Occupational Therapy at Grace Hospital in Morganton, North Carolina, for seven years.
In 1993 Flossie suffered a devastating back injury. She was told that she should never attempt to ride her beloved horse again. Unwilling to accept that, she set out to heal her injury using all the traditional therapy tools that were available to her. Unfortunately, after four years of trying, she couldn’t make the pain go away and found only temporary relief at best. There had to be something else.
In 1997 Flossie began an extensive study of Myofascial Release. The techniques were new, different, and greatly effective. She found a Myofascial Release therapist to treat her back, and after eight sessions, the pain was gone and she was riding her horse once again. This was the answer she had been looking for, both personally and professionally.
As the new methods required longer periods of time with patients than can be offered in a traditional physical therapy setting, Flossie became frustrated. Then she learned that the Gentle Pain Release Center ® in Asheville, under the direction of Richard Fowler, P.T., was utilizing those methods and looking for a physical therapist so trained. After a period of commuting from home and horses in Morganton, a satellite clinic was born to serve the Morganton/Hickory/Lenoir area, and Flossie’s dream was realized.
